Newcastle United reignite interest in £60m England international as Paul Mitchell prepares for busy summer.
The Magpies are now in a position where they can spend more freely in what looks set to be a very important summer transfer window. Newcastle United will play in Europe next season thanks to their Carabao Cup win – Eddie Howe’s side are definitely in the UEFA Europa Conference League but can still qualify for the Champions League if they perform well in the Premier League.
Newcastle sold Miguel Almiron to Atlanta in January and are expected to bag a sizeable transfer fee for Lloyd Kelly if Juventus qualify for Europe, giving them even more room to manoeuvre in the transfer market.
Sporting director Paul Mitchell will have his hands full at Newcastle this summer, juggling player sales, contract renewals and potential arrivals to ensure Howe has the best possible options available to him next season.
Newcastle are prioritising a right winger in the summer after Almiron’s exit meant Jacob Murphy was the only natural right-wing option at the club’s disposal. The 30-year-old has performed well this season but will not be a long-term option in that position given his age.
With Newcastle’s transfer priorities clear, a new report has linked the Magpies with a move for an England international who has looked electric at times this season.

Newcastle United eyeing move for Noni Madueke
Chelsea winger Noni Madueke has been hot and cold for the Blues this season, seemingly struggling to solidify his place in their vast squad.
The 23-year-old is currently out with a hamstring problem but had featured in 23 Premier League games before that, scoring seven goals and bagging three assists.

Newcastle were linked with Madueke in 2024, a move that failed to materialise as the Magpies continued to struggle to comply with PSR.
According to GiveMeSport, Newcastle have shortlisted Madueke as a possible option to fill the gap on the right wing but by no means will it be cheap.
Reports in 2024 suggested that Madueke would cost Newcastle £60m, a price tag that the Magpies should be able to afford in the summer but not one they would want to pay given how many younger players they could sign for that money.
Mitchell wants to sign young players at Newcastle this summer with the hope that Howe can develop them as he has done for several other prospects on Tyneside. While Madueke, an England international, still fits the bill, his reported asking price could prove to be a dealbreaker.
Newcastle are targeting young wingers for the future
There has been a huge mentality shift at Newcastle since Mitchell arrived. Fans have already been given a glimpse of his new transfer strategy after the Magpies welcomed Kyle Fitzgerald and Baran Yildiz to the club in January.
Fitzgerald has been sensational for Newcastle, scoring several goals for the under-18s. He even made an appearance for Newcastle’s under-21s as a reward for his fine form.
Mitchell has already begun working on deals for the summer as well, Antonio Cordero is close to joining Newcastle after his family came to Tyneside to look at the training ground. It is believed that Cordero rejected Real Madrid for Newcastle in a move that shows how strong Mitchell’s pulling power is.
Elsewhere, young attacker Vakhtang Salia will join Newcastle in August on his 18th birthday.
