Manchester United have been handed an update on Liam Delap amid reports linking him with a summer move to Ruben Amorim's team.

The former Manchester City striker has been in impressive form for Ipswich Town this season. Delap has scored 10 goals so far for a side that sits 18th in the Premier League table.

Recent reports have claimed that the Reds are keeping a close eye on the Englishman. A move for Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres may be off the cards, opening up the possibility of a swoop for Delap, particularly if Ipswich are relegated. Reds technical director Jason Wilcox is already familiar with the forward's abilities, having been part of the City team that signed him from Derby County in 2019.

It is claimed that City included a £40million buy-back clause in the deal, which is thought to be the benchmark other clubs are using to gauge how much Ipswich may demand if United decide to pursue Delap. It is anticipated that Chelsea would be their main rivals.

And Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that stance in his latest newsletter for GiveMeSport. He adds that all top-flight clubs looking for a striker are also monitoring him.

"He’s on Chelsea list for sure, let’s see if more clubs join or not," he said. "All Premier League clubs looking for a striker are monitoring him but at the moment nothing concrete yet."

The Winchester-born striker was drafted into training with the senior England team last week alongside Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham. Unphased by the step-up, Delap expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

"It was an incredible experience. They’re all players I look up to, admire and carve my game upon," he said.

"They appreciate that everyone is here for a reason. There is so much expression of freedom, they let you be you, obviously in a structured way, but they let you be yourself.

"I’ve been here through the age groups, so it’s always nice to come here and play with people you have played with through the years. Some of my close friends are here, so it is always nice to come and play with them. James McAtee is my really close friend from [Manchester] City growing up."
