Russ? Rudolph? Rookie? What Is Steelers’ Plan B At QB If Aaron Rodgers Doesn’t Sign?

**What is the Steelers’ Plan B at quarterback if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t sign?**

Despite his scenic tour of the South Side, Aaron Rodgers continues to keep the Pittsburgh Steelers waiting. The future Hall of Famer appears to have three legitimate options at this time: Pittsburgh, the Giants, or retirement. It’s possible that another option arises, but for now, it’s down to these.

At the moment, the Steelers appear to be the betting favorite to land Aaron Rodgers. Whether that’s a good or bad thing, I will leave to the readers to determine for themselves. He isn’t exactly the same player who beat them in the Super Bowl—but it’s also not Kyle Allen.

The thing is, though, the Steelers need a plan if Rodgers doesn’t sign. While they signed Mason Rudolph, we don’t know if that is their true “Plan B”. Russell Wilson is still lurking out there, and feelings can change if the circumstances do. If Rodgers signs with the Giants, does Wilson suddenly look more attractive?

There are other veteran options out there, ones that could take a while. There is Kirk Cousins, for example, as a trade option, but it doesn’t sound like he wants to waive his no-trade clause until after the draft. Speaking of the draft, if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t sign with the Steelers, how does that shift their approach?

Even under the best of circumstances, Rodgers would be a short-term solution for the Steelers. Bringing him in would in no way prevent them from drafting a quarterback if they really like one. There are mixed accounts about how he would fare as a mentor, but there is only so much you can do about that.

But if Rodgers signs elsewhere, do the Steelers try to find a 2025 starter in the draft? Of course, they would have to view one of the rookies as capable of just that. Perhaps a Jaxson Dart, if he is available by the time they select. Either way, one hopes that Rodgers provides an answer soon, so the Steelers know what they have to do next.

_The Steelers’ 2024 season has come to its predictably inauspicious end, with yet another one-and-done postseason for HC Mike Tomlin. The offense faltered, and the defense matched it blow for blow, leading to a 21-0 first-half deficit._

_Just like last year, the biggest question hanging over the Steelers is the quarterback question. Do they_ [_still believe in Russell Wilson, and/or Justin Fields_](https://steelersdepot.com/2025/01/breer-steelers-will-mull-qb-future-playoff-loss-does-not-help-russell-wilsons-case/)_, or do they want another solution? There are_ [_other major decisions to make_](https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/pittsburgh-steelers)_, as well, such as what to do with George Pickens. Do you sign him to an extension, try to trade him, or let him play out his rookie contract?_

_The Steelers started the 2024 season 10-3, with Mike Tomlin in the Coach of the Year conversation. Wash, rinse, and repeat, and we have another late-season collapse. This may be the worst yet, a four-game losing streak presaging a one-and-done playoff “run”. Welcome to Steelers football._
