**The Premier League’s all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer says Liverpool should consider Liam Delap if they decide to replace Darwin Nunez.**
The 22-year-old has impressed since joining Ipswich Town from Manchester City for £20m last year and Shearer believes he won’t be short of suitors this summer.
“Liverpool are going to need a centre-forward. They might try and move Nunez on and bring someone else into that position. There will be big football clubs after Delap I’m sure of that.”
Delap has scored 10 goals in 31 appearances this campaign, which is only three more than Nunez, but he is playing for a team that is battling against relegation.
Will Nunez leave Anfield?
-------------------------
Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed last month that the Uruguayan was close to moving to Saudi Arabia during the January transfer window, and there is a good chance that the forward could be sold at the end of the season too.
Nunez has struggled for consistency since his club record transfer from Benfica in 2022. It was hoped that new head coach Arne Slot would get more out of the 25-year-old but, if anything, he has regressed since the Dutchman’s arrival.
Liverpool are also interested in another former City striker
------------------------------------------------------------
Delap isn’t the only ex-Manchester City player who has been linked with the Reds. Last week, Julian Alvarez’s agent Fernando Hidalgo [**said**](https://walkon.com/blog/liverpool-transfer-news-julian-alvarez/) that the Merseysiders did make enquiries before the Argentinian international moved to Atletico Madrid.
It is believed the club has retained an interest in the World Cup winner, although it would be difficult to negotiate a deal with Atletico, who are keen on keeping hold of him.
Alvarez may cost in excess of £100m, while Delap (in contrast) could be brought in for a fee considerably below that amount.
