Man Utd Plot Cut Price Deal For £50M Midfielder Who They First Tried To Sign 6 Years Ago

Manchester United are “keen” on snapping up Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to the Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder.

The 27-year-old will have one year left on his contract at St James’ Park this summer and he is set to leave the Magpies.

Due to the short amount of time remaining on his current deal, Longstaff’s asking price is not expected to be high.

His availability for a modest sum is likely to have attracted Ruben Amorim’s side who are not in a position where they can spend sizeable amounts of money on new signings.

Longstaff has been a United target previously

The midfielder was linked with a move to Old Trafford during the 2019 summer transfer window when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the man in the dugout.

However, Newcastle’s valuation of Longstaff at the time was £50m, which was a figure that put off the Red Devils from making a move.

The club’s interest cooled soon afterwards but it is believed that scouts have been keeping a close eye on him again over the past few months.

There will be competition for the player

The Chronicle claim that Everton are interested in signing Longstaff as well. The Toffees also have a longstanding interest, having first made an official bid for him at the start of the January window in 2022.

With the prospect of the player moving for a cut-price deal, it is more than likely that other clubs will enter the mix for his signature over the coming weeks.

Longstaff is said to be keen on playing for a club who can give him regular first-team football so United may have to offer certain guarantees if they want to secure his services ahead of the competition this summer.
