Liverpool are prepared to allow Darwin Nunez to leave the club this summer as they have already begun planning for next season.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the money raised from his sale will be used to sign a new striker.
Atletico Madrid are the latest side to be linked with Nunez, and the chance to work under Diego Simeone is seen as the “perfect” move for his career.
However, they will have to meet the Reds’ potentially lofty asking price as they are not prepared to let the 25-year-old leave on a cheap deal.
Football Insider revealed in January that Liverpool are open to offers of £50-60million for Nunez amid growing interest from clubs in the Premier League and across Europe.
Following his potential sale, Arne Slot’s side will turn their attention to incoming deals amid interest in Newcastle star Alexander Isak and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.

Liverpool to accept Darwin Nunez offer and sign a replacement
Football Insider revealed on 15 March that Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool as the forward has grown unhappy after the club blocked a move to Al-Hilal.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that a move to Atletico Madrid would be the best solution for all parties at this stage.
“Liverpool are making decisions about what they need for next year,” he told Football Insider.
“They feel they’ve got to improve on Nunez and their options up front.
“For some time, these players have been alright because of the strength of the team so they get away with it, but if that strength isn’t there, they’re passengers.
“We’ve seen that in their last couple of games when they’ve been missing.
“They’ve been after a striker for a while, and that’s become even more pressing now.
“So Nunez is one who I hear will be let go to raise money and make room for that new forward.
“I’m told Atletico Madrid have been looking – I think that would be a good move for him.
“The manager there has done a brilliant job over so many years, through ups and downs, and nobody is queuing up to play against them.
“Their recruitment has been good and they tend to get the best out of their players.
“I think that’s what Nunez needs, a manager who is going to bring out the best sides of him.
“If they can meet Liverpool’s asking price, and I’m not convinced that will be cheap, Atletico would be the perfect move for all parties.”

Diogo Jota in line to leave Anfield after contract talks collapse
Nunez is not the only forward being linked with a move away from the club, as Football Insider revealed Liverpool are delaying Diogo Jota’s contract talks.
His current deal is set to run until 2027, but there is a growing feeling he could be allowed to leave Anfield this summer rather than committing to new terms.
The 28-year-old forward is a top target for Saudi Pro League clubs, while Arsenal are among the clubs interested in Jota as they look to improve their attacking options.
So far this season, Jota has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, leaving many frustrated with his displays.
