Man Utd were linked with a sensational move for Paul Pogba but he is reportedly set to join a club legend in the MLS.
Paul Pogba has reportedly agreed to join Manchester United legend David Beckham at Major League Soccer club Inter Miami following his return to professional football. The French midfielder is free to play professional football once again after his 18-month ban officially came to an end earlier in the month.
Pogba, 31, was initially given a four-year suspension last February after testing positive for the banned substance DHEA, but the punishment was reduced after a successful appeal. The former United academy graduate has always pleaded his innocence in the case and was free to return to professional football from 11 March 2025. Pogba has not played since his final appearance for Juventus on 3 September 2023 and was later released by the Serie A club.
The midfielder is now officially a free agent and could sign for any professional club outside of the transfer window, as long as they have a space in their first-team roster. Inter Miami are one such club and reports in Spain suggest a move to the MLS could soon be on the cards.
Lionel Messi 'pushes' for Paul Pogba move
A report from notorious transfer outlet Fichajes claim negotiations between Pogba and Inter Miami have progressed in recent days and that an official announcement is now expected in the coming weeks.
It has even been reported that Miami forward Lionel Messi has personally urged the club hierarchy to sign the midfielder to further strengthen a star-studded squad that already includes Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
Inter Miami have started the MLS season strong with three wins and one draw from their opening four matches. A reported move for Pogba is also strengthened by the fact the Frenchman has been spending time in Miami while he contemplates a return to football.
In a recent Instagram video post, Pogba said: “So we’re here in Miami, training, trying to get fit as soon as possible. You already know the story.”
Manchester United stance on signing Pogba
United are another club that could technically sign Pogba as a free agent before the end of the season, though it is a suggestion that has already been shot down by head coach Ruben Amorim.
Speaking back in February, Amorim was quizzed on the possibility of a free agent signing and whether United had considered any amid the lack of senior options. "No, no. It’s not an idea we have. We have young players and we’re working with them and we have to really focus on that as a club. When you have these moments of a lot of injuries you should use young players if not you don’t have space for them to improve and show themselves. We need to focus in future on youth because of the history of our club and the reality of our situation."
