What Chelsea's attack could look like next season as club open talks to sign£50m winger - opinion

Chelsea already have one of the best attacks in the Premier League, outscoring most teams this season.

Sitting on 53 goals after 29 games, only three sides in the English top flight have actually netted more times than Enzo Maresca‘s men.

Rank Team Goals

1. Liverpool 69

2. Manchester City 55

= Tottenham Hotspur 55

4. Arsenal 53

= Chelsea 53

Even so, the Blues are still keen on improving their forward line this summer, with the arrival of a new winger and striker likely.

Chelsea could actually sign a wide man and No.9 before the end of June and are being linked with one of their targets from the 2024 summer transfer window.

Chelsea interested in signing Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams

After a stunning Euro 2024 campaign, Chelsea wanted to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao last year.

Williams ended up remaining in Spain, but the winger appears to be of interest to the Blues once again.

According to TBR Football, Chelsea have opened talks with Williams’ entourage to sign the 22-year-old, who has a release clause set at around £50m.

Williams continues to be an important player for Athletic, making 24 appearances in La Liga this season. Across those matches, the Spain international has scored four goals and provided five assists.

While Williams could arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer, Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke could depart.

Chelsea have the option of sending Sancho back to Manchester United instead of signing him permanently, while Madueke is attracting interest from Tottenham.

What Chelsea’s new-look attack could be

By the time the 2025/26 season arrives, Maresca could have a very different looking forward line.

Williams could replace Sancho on the left, while Estevao Willian, who is set to arrive at Chelsea in the summer, may end up succeeding Madueke on the opposite flank.

Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap could also oust Nicolas Jackson out of the side as he continues to be linked with a move to west London.

Delap and Williams, then, could be the two attacking additions Chelsea make ahead of the next campaign.
