'Neck on the line': Journalist suggests Liverpool really could sign £38m PL player this summer

Liverpool are set for a busy summer ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Despite the disappointment of the final week before the international break, this season has gone better than expected for the Reds as Arne Slot has guided the Merseyside club to the top of the Premier League, who currently hold a 12-point lead over Arsenal.

Recent results have highlighted the problems Liverpool have and in order to be able to compete like they have this season, new signings will be needed over the summer.

Liverpool have been linked to Alexander Isak to strengthen their forward line, while a centre-back, a left-back and a midfielder may also be acquired.

When it comes to the left side of Slot’s defence, one man has been consistently linked with a move to Anfield and according to Liverpool journalist David Lynch, the transfer makes ‘too much sense’ to not happen.

Liverpool expected to make a move for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez

Liverpool have been linked to Milos Kerkez for some time now as the Merseyside club set about trying to find Andy Robertson’s successor at Anfield.

The Scottish star’s form has been very inconsistent throughout the current campaign, hence why left-back has become an immediate area of concern for Slot.

Kerkez has impressed Ian Wright and many others with his displays since joining Bournemouth during the summer of 2023 and a deal for the 21-year-old is expected to cost around £38m (€45m).

Real Madrid have also shown an interest in Kerkez, but according to Liverpool reporter David Lynch, he “would not be shocked” if the Hungarian star is in a red shirt throughout the 2025/26 campaign.

“I just would not be shocked at all if it ends up being Milos Kerkez,” Lynch told Anfield Index. “I’m kind of putting my neck on the line a little bit more because it’s just everything about it seems to make an awful lot of sense.

“The player wants to move, he would be willing to make that move, and Liverpool are in a good position. The Richard Hughes factor and the fact that Liverpool are definitely going to sign a left-back.”

“He’s got Premier League experience, he is a really good age and all his numbers look really good on both sides of the ball. It just makes almost too much sense to kind of not happen. So, like I say, definitely on the list, and I would not be shocked if he was the one that they ended up popping for.”

Should Kerkez arrive at Liverpool this summer, that would likely see another left-back depart the Merseyside club, and Lynch has also provided an update on this situation.

Kostas Tsimikas ready to close Liverpool chapter in his career

It was recently reported that Kostas Tsimikas would leave Liverpool if the Reds decide to sell a left-back before bringing in a new body.

This is a scenario Lynch also expected to play out with the Liverpool journalist also seeing Robertson’s minutes reduced next season, with the Scotland captain expected to have more of a rotational role with the new full-back the Premier Leaguer leaders bring in.

“I would expect it to be Tsimikas. I think they’ll be interested in him out there,” Lynch told Anfield Index when asked about the player he expects to leave.”

“I think his desire to play football is growing. He has spent a long time at Anfield, got a few winners medals, and hopefully gets another in the Premier League this season.

“We’ve heard from Robertson as well talking this week, in terms of his desire to still be the first choice. Now, obviously, I think he’s realistic in that he knows that Liverpool are going to sign someone who’s going to start a lot of games in that position, but I also think it signals a willingness to be there and be competitive.

“And you know, look how much Tsimikas has played this season. There are still a lot of games for the guy who is the backup. You know, you’ve got to kind of look after your fullbacks, because you get through so much. So there will be a lot of games there.

“So yeah, I would expect it to be Tsimikas out the door, Robertson as the kind of backup, albeit playing quite a lot, and then that left-back signing to instantly improve the starting 11.”

It will become clearer over the coming weeks just how serious Liverpool’s interest in Kerkez is and whether the Reds can land him or not, may come down to the other clubs that are involved in the race.
