West Ham Fear£25M Winger Could Miss 3 Months At The Start Of Next Season In Worst Case Scenario

West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville is in “danger” of breaking down in pre-season after refusing surgery on a thigh injury, a source has told insider ExWHUEmployee.

Writing on the West Ham Way Patreon (quotes via their website), Ex said he asked when the Dutchman could return to action and the response wasn’t positive:

“Our top source inside the club replied: ‘Next season. [The] danger is, having refused the operation, he breaks down in preseason and then is out for another 3 months. But hopefully, his requested no evasive treatment will work’. This will come as a blow for Graham Potter who has only been able to use him in one game and that was the cup game away at Aston Villa, his first game in charge.

“We will keep checking in for updates on the winger’s situation but for now it seems unlikely that we will see him again this season if our top sources’ information doesn’t change. Sometimes however players can recover quicker than predicted so fingers crossed this is the case but for now, it seems unlikely according to the source.”

Summerville has already been out since January

The 23-year-old has only played once for current head coach Graham Potter. He started the manager’s first game in charge against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

However, Summerville broke down just after half-time during the 2-1 defeat and he has been undergoing treatment since then. As well the matches he has missed already, he is set to be sidelined for the fixtures against Wolves, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Southampton, Brighton, Tottenham, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town.

The latest West Ham injury news

While the news on Summerville is far from great, Niclas Fullkrug has provided a more positive update. The striker was injured in the same game as Summerville but he has returned to training and should be in contention to play after the international break.

Vladimir Coufal has also recovered match fitness. The fullback played 80 minutes for the Czech Republic against the Faroe Islands on Saturday. He had been out with a hamstring strain since the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.

Michail Antonio remains in rehab as he continues to recover from a broken leg. Some reports suggest that the 34-year-old is hopeful of returning before the end of the season but that maybe overly optimistic.
