Manchester United wonderkid breaks another international record

Manchester United have long been known for developing young talent, with their academy consistently producing promising prospects.

The club’s commitment to youth development has played a crucial role in their history, with several academy graduates going on to become key players.

In recent years, United have continued to prioritize the growth of young players, giving them opportunities in domestic and international competitions.

Their ability to nurture young talent has been evident across multiple levels, with academy stars making an impact both at club and international level.

One emerging talent has now written his name in the record books with a remarkable achievement.

James Scanlon has secured his place among the youngest goalscorers in UEFA Nations League history.

While the competition does not have the same prestige as the World Cup, it has provided a platform for young stars since its inception in 2018.

Spanish prodigy Lamine Yamal recently made headlines by becoming the youngest scorer in the tournament, netting against Croatia to overtake his national teammate Gavi.

That goal reshuffled the rankings, creating an all-Spanish top three alongside former Brighton loanee Ansu Fati.

However, just behind them sits James Scanlon, a Manchester United academy prospect who has now become the youngest non-Spanish player to score in the competition.

Representing Gibraltar, Scanlon found the back of the net at 17 against Liechtenstein, etching his name into his country’s history books.

Despite playing for a smaller footballing nation, James Scanlon continues to gain valuable experience against high-level opposition.

Gibraltar recently faced Montenegro, where Scanlon was involved in a tough 3-1 defeat.

Last year, James Scanlon also secured his place in history as the nation’s youngest-ever goalscorer at 17 years and 346 days.

This achievement broke Tjay de Barr’s previous record, who scored at 18 years and 248 days.

His development has been rapid, with the midfielder scoring 17 goals and providing seven assists for United’s academy this season.

His impressive form has not gone unnoticed, earning him a place in United’s Europa League squad, where he was named on the bench against Real Sociedad.

With his talent and progress catching Ruben Amorim’s eye, a first-team debut could be on the horizon.
