David Ornstein provides clarity on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Real Madrid reports

This week, news broke from talkSPORT that claimed that Trent Alexander-Arnold had already signed for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos first tested Liverpool’s resolve with a £20 million bid.

While the Reds rebuffed that approach, the defender’s reluctance to extend his contract—despite multiple improved offers—left the door open for Madrid to secure his signature.

It has since been reported this week that the defender has already signed a five-year vontract at the Santiago Bernabeu worth in excess of in excess of £220,000-per-week.

The sting of losing a local hero on a free transfer will linger for a long time should Alexander-Arnold make this switch—a consequence of contract mismanagement during Liverpool’s post-Klopp transition

However, not all is lost.

David Ornstein has now clarified reports on the matter, and as we reported in our exclusive, the academy graduate has not yet signed a deal with Real Madrid.

While he acknowledges that Real Madrid is still working on a deal to bring the 26-year-old to Spain, it is not a closed deal as we reported earlier, according to the Athletic journalist.

“Real Madrid are working to close a deal to sign Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold as a free agent in the summer,” he wrote.

“The La Liga side have been monitoring Alexander-Arnold for two years and doing everything in their power since January to convince him to join at the end of this season.”

“They will have to inform their Premier League counterparts if and when a deal is signed, which has not happened yet.”

It is common practice for clubs to give free agent signing on fees and bonuses as a way to sweeten and even close the deal – which Real Madrid are willing to offer.

The endless speculation has tested the patience of the Anfield faithful. While Slot’s side tops the league, the unresolved futures of three key players loom over the campaign.

Social media has been buzzing with exasperation ever since the vice-captain’s future came in jeopardy.

And while no resolution has yet emerged, it seems that Liverpool fans should resign themselves to the worst-case scenario.
