AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT Is Selling Like a Decent GPU Should: Really Well

AMD's RX 9070 XT isn't just the darling of the review world; it's made a strong first impression with gamers, too. AMD has called the sales numbers "unprecedented," before, but it's now reportedly selling as many as 10 times as the last generation had at this point in its lifecycle. Better than that, perhaps, one German retailer claims to have sold 10 times the number of 9070 XTs as they have Nvidia's RTX 5070 Ti.

The AMD RX 9070 XT is a powerful mid-to-high-end graphics card with strong 4K and 1440p performance, much-improved ray tracing, and AI upscaling. It's no groundbreaking piece of hardware, but in 2025, a competent GPU with strong all-around performance and a fair-ish price is enough to get you noticed. With Nvidia's ongoing RTX 50-series debacles, there's been a big swing toward Team Red, and the sales numbers back up the vibe shift.

In a recent interview with Asus' China manager Tony Yu on Billibilli, AMD's CEO Lisa Su said that the RX 9070 XT was selling at ten times the pace of the last-generation RX 7000 series this soon after release, and the generations that came before it.

"[The] 9070 XT has been a fantastic success," Su said (via WCCFTech). "it's been the number-one selling for all the AMD Radeon generations for first-week sales by far—10x higher than previous generations. And we like to see people happy. People are very happy with the 9070 XT."

While we would suggest taking any CEO's sales claims with a pinch of salt, there is other evidence backing it up. German retailer Mindfactory released some of its sales figures this week (via WCCFTech) and claimed that it had sold 10 times the number of RX 9070 XT graphics cards as it had Nvidia's RTX 5070 Ti.

It's fair to point out that the 5070 Ti is a more expensive card, both at MSRP and at currently inflated scalper prices. There also has been very little stock of the 5070 Ti to actually sell to anyone. But the 9070 XT is clearly filling the void Nvidia has left open with its lackluster Blackwell generation of GPUs. The AMD GPU has reached over 45% market share among gamers in Japan and seems set to make big gains in other markets in the coming weeks.

We've got our eyes peeled for the next month of Steam hardware survey data. Will the 9070 XT make an early appearance?
