Marcus Rashford has been back on the international stage in the last seven days with the Manchester United loanee starting for England twice in the space of the week.

The forward has revived his England career in the first three months of 2025 with his performances on loan at Aston Villa impressing Thomas Tuchel. Rashford's form in Birmingham has already sparked confusion among many over United's call to let him leave after his falling out with Ruben Amorim.

Despite failing to score in his first nine games for Villa, the 27-year-old has assisted four goals. Unai Emery's team are in the Champions League quarter-finals and remain within a shout of winning the FA Cup.

Rashford isn't expected to be back in United colours at the end of the season with Villa agreeing a £40million optional purchase clause within the deal. For all parties - the player, Villa and United - a permanent exit would be one that works for all.

However, there was once a time where United possessed one of the most talented forwards in the world in Rashford. In 2021, the forward hit his 'peak' in terms of his market value with him one of the brightest sparks within the team.

His estimated transfer value sat at €85million (£71m), according to Transfermarkt. It must be stated, at the time, a fee significantly closer to £100m would only have been enough to even grab the attention of United.

2022 saw his market value drop down to €55m (£45.9m) after managing just two Premier League goals in the second half of the 2021/22 season. His sensational numbers produced the following season, 40 goal contributions in 56 games, added millions to his value to reach €80m (£66.8m).

Unfortunately, Rashford has been unable to maintain that level and as his form has dipped, so has his market value. At the end of last season, where he netted just eight goals, it had dropped to €60m (£50.1m).

After struggling to find the right deal for Rashford in January and Amorim's persistence of not including him, United's potential windfall dropped further. On Transfermarkt now, the forward is valued at €50m (£41.7m), just £1.7m more than the agreement in place with Villa.

It's the lowest market value on Rashford's head since January 2018, less than two years after he famously came onto the scene under Louis Van Gaal. On paper, United are getting the best deal for him in the summer, but they could have easily sold him for closer to £100m only a few years ago.
