West Ham United parted ways with Julen Lopetegui at the beginning of January.
Julen Lopetegui oversaw a disastrous run of results during his time in charge of West Ham.
Former Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui is now being linked with the Monterrey job out in Mexico.
That in itself proves to me that he was never the right appointment from David Sullivan in the first place.
Graham Potter took over from Lopetegui at the London Stadium just over 10 weeks ago now.

And Potter has made big improvements at West Ham since Lopetegui left the club.
I firmly believe that the Hammers are on the right track now, with Potter in charge.
Julen Lopetegui shares why West Ham shouldn’t have sacked him
The Spaniard was so obviously out of his depth in charge of the Hammers.

So it was no surprise when he eventually lost his job after our 4-1 defeat to Manchester City at the beginning of January.
However, it seems like the Spaniard was surprised when he was let go, for one very bizarre reason indeed.
And now Lopetegui has offered a stunning reason as to why Sullivan should not have sacked him, as quoted by Marca:

“They called me on the phone and informed me of the dismissal. We didn’t expect that change, but we had to accept it. It surprised us. We had just played a great game against City, even though we lost.”
Wow, just wow. What can you say to that aside from the fact that it sums up just how much Lopetegui’s head was buried in the sand.
What self-respecting, supposed top-tier football manager loses a game 4-1 and says that his team played very well? I would argue not many, if any at all.
West Ham U-18 starlet’s incredible story about Julen Lopetegui
Lopetegui was destined to fail from the start at the London Stadium.
His lack of knowledge about the youth team setup has come to light since he left the club.
Hammers youth team starlet Jethro Medine recently shared a story about one West Ham training session when Julen Lopetegui proved his sheer ignorance:
“There was one session yeh, when Lopetegui was still at the club, they’ve already started. He threw me a bib and said, ‘go play, you’re playing striker’. Wan-Bissaka comes up to me and says, ‘where do you play?’, and I said, ‘I’m a right-back, I don’t want to play striker’. He said, ‘go on you can play right-back, I will go there’.“
That’s disgraceful really isn’t it, and it’s absolutely no shock at all that Julen Lopetegui is no longer the West Ham head coach.
