Green Bay Packers Foolishly Urged to Trade a Top Jordan Love Weapon Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

Going into the 2025 NFL offseason, many fans and analysts believed that the Green Bay Packers would make a big splash in free agency at the wide receiver position. As the days and weeks went by, though, Packers fans saw top free agent/trade targets come off the board. Tee Higgins signed an extension with the Cincinnati Bengals, DK Metcalf was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Davante Adams signed with the Los Angeles Rams.

In fact, the only wide receiver transaction Green Bay has made so far at the wide receiver position this offseason was re-signing Bo Melton.

As it stands, wide receiver is still, at least in the eyes of fans, a glaring need on the Packers roster. Christian Watson is going to miss most of the 2025 NFL season as he recovers from a torn ACL he suffered in Week 18 against the Chicago Bears, and many other Green Bay pass catchers struggled with drops in 2024.

NFL Analyst Urges the Green Bay Packers to Trade Romeo Doubs

Despite the fact that many fans and analysts believe the Packers should add a wide receiver, one of the players most commonly named in trade rumors and proposals is one of the current wide receivers: Romeo Doubs.

Per PFF, Doubs presents Green Bay with their best option in regard to adding draft picks for the upcoming NFL Draft:

“Watson may have the most upside of the bunch, but a torn ACL suffered late in the year would reduce his trade value. At the same time, Doubs has been effective in the past two years, ranking second on the team with a 75.0 PFF receiving grade and leading the way with 83 first downs picked up. The bottom line is that Green Bay probably will not re-sign both Watson and Doubs next offseason, and the latter could net more capital right now.”

While the perspective that Green Bay will not re-sign both Doubs and Watson in 2026 is understandable and reasonable, it does not make much sense for Green Bay to trade one of their top pass catchers while another one is out for an extended period of time.

Last season, Doubs had 72 targets (third on the team), 46 receptions (third on the team), 601 receiving yards (fourth on the team), and four touchdown receptions (fourth on the team).

In other words, trading him would create an even bigger hole at the position, not to mention take away one of Jordan Love’s favorite targets in the passing game.

While his future in Green Bay beyond the 2025 season is in question (and it should be after his 9.7% drop percentage and suspension for conduct detrimental to the team), there is doubt that Doubs is very much needed by the Packers this upcoming season.

As for adding a wide receiver this offseason, do not be surprised if Green Bay takes at least one in the NFL Draft next month.
