Everton have an obligation to buy Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo if certain conditions are met but are afraid of triggering a deal.

The Toffees signed the Argentine midfielder on an initial loan from the Brazilian outfit in the winter transfer window to bolster their engine room.

Alcaraz has impressed at Goodison Park during his short stint so far, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him become a key player next season.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that Alcaraz would permanently join David Moyes’ team for around £15million after playing five more games, but there seems to be hesitation at the Merseyside outfit.

The O Dia columnist revealed that the Toffees want to wait five more games before exercising the clause to sign the 22-year-old midfielder permanently because they fear he might pick up a fitness issue.

Lopes disclosed that Flamengo have been informed of the Blues’ intentions, but the Premier League outfit want to wait a bit longer.

Speaking on Resenha Rubro-Negra (24 March), the journalist said: “In fact, recently, Flamengo had been informed that Everton would, in fact, exercise the right to this clause to buy Alcaraz, but wanted to wait five more games, also because the guys are afraid of him getting injured.”

Moyes must push for Alcaraz transfer

Orel Mangala’s injury gave Everton a big headache, but Alcaraz has fit in like a glove under Moyes.

The Argentine midfielder has showcased that he can be the next big star for the Merseyside outfit in the coming years.

Abdoulaye Doucoure’s contract at Goodison Park expires at the end of the season, leaving the Toffees with some tough decisions to make.

Everton could also lose Idrissa Gueye next summer, leaving them with a dearth of options in the middle of the park.

Alcaraz’s permanent signing becomes even more essential considering the lack of depth the Toffees may have in the coming months.

The 22-year-old has been a versatile option for Moyes in recent matches, playing out wide as the Blues drew 1-1 with West Ham United on 15 March.

While Everton are right to be concerned about the Argentine national’s fitness issues, they can’t miss out on getting a potential talent like him.

The Goodison Park faithful will hope Alcaraz remains relatively injury-free once he becomes a permanent signing.
