Commanders ‘Bust’ vs. ‘Best’ Trade Move On Deebo Debated

Few teams were as busy on the phones through the first week of the 2025 offseason as the Washington Commanders were.

Fresh off an appearance in the NFC title game for the first time in decades, the Commanders are doing everything in their power to get back for the second straight year under Dan Quinn.

Along the way, the team acquired the likes of left tackle Laremy Tunsil and wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Both players are All-Pro caliber talents who have injury histories to worry about.

So ... "best'' moves? Or "bust''moves?

That matters little to NFL.com's Jeffri Chadiha. The longtime analyst believes the Samuel trade is one of the best moves any team has made this offseason.

"Commanders general manager Adam Peters has made a flurry of moves over the last few weeks -- including the trade that delivered left tackle Laremy Tunsil-- but Samuel is the one that should generate the most excitement around D.C.," Chadiha writes. "This trade now pairs Samuel with a rising star quarterback (Jayden Daniels) in an offense that already has a No. 1 receiver (Terry McLaurin). It's not hard to see Samuel thriving with that type of talent, as well as a rushing attack that ranked third in the league last season.

"These are basically the same variables that were in play during his peak years in San Francisco, and you saw the production that came as a result."

Samuel has battled injuries over the last few years in San Francisco. With concerns about his weight also being added, the 49ers essentially gave the veteran away for nothing.

That means Washington is getting a hungry player that is eager to prove he can still play at a high level.

It's certainly not something other teams in the NFC East want to see.
