Report: Dan Ashworth could now land major FA job after Man Utd exit, despite talks to join Cristiano Ronaldo

Dan Ashworth is in talks over a return to football having abruptly departed Manchester United back in December.

Ineos have already endured some significant misfires at Manchester United.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is looking to cut costs and the redundancies announced by Ineos in February didn’t exactly go down well.

Closer to the football side, Ratcliffe admitted that keeping Erik ten Hag was an error as the Dutchman ended up being axed in October.

United hope to see Ruben Amorim thrive but Ineos must still win back the trust of many supporters after some questionable decisions.

Dan Ashworth in FA talks after Manchester United exit

One of the major question marks surrounds Dan Ashworth.

United headhunted Ashworth to become the club’s new sporting director and head up the Ineos project.

Ashworth joined from Newcastle United over the summer and was viewed as a major coup for Ratcliffe and co.

Ashworth departed United in December though, moving on after just a matter of months at Old Trafford.

This was an expensive mistake for Ineos, and Ashworth is now looking for his next opportunity in the game.

The Telegraph report that Ashworth is now in talks over a return to The Football Association.

Ashworth previously served as The FA’s director of elite development before leaving for Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018.

Now in line for a significant role overseeing both junior and senior football in the men’s and women’s games, whilst also focusing on developing English coaches.

England have a new boss in Thomas Tuchel and The FA want Ashworth back in a major role overseeing the development of English football.

Dan Ashworth has been linked with joining Cristiano Ronaldo

Ashworth is in demand right now and The FA may have to fight off rival interest for his services.

Arsenal had been interested in Ashworth but ended up hiring former Atletico Madrid man Andrea Berta as their new sporting director.

Reports last week suggested that Ashworth had held talks to join Al-Nassr as their new sporting director.

Al-Nassr boast United legend Cristiano Ronaldo as their big star and seemingly want Ashworth to help move the club forward.

Ashworth may now face a big decision; return to relative familiarity at The FA or make a bold move to Saudi Arabia instead.

It’s clear that Ashworth’s United exit hasn’t dented his reputation too much though, and a new job may be imminent for him as the season heads towards its end.
