Frenkie de Jong is reportedly in talks with Barcelona over a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.
According to The Athletic, an agreement is yet to be reached but the Netherlands midfielder is keen to commit his future to the club.
De Jong is one of Barcelona’s highest earners and his contract has caused plenty of headlines over the few years.
Diario Sport are reporting that as part of the contract talks Barca want to restructure his salary and have some details on the plans.

The Catalans are hoping to reduce his fixed salary but increase the performance-related variables on offer. The thinking is that he could still receive the same financial amount but only if he meets agreed objectives.
Barcelona also want to “eliminate” the payments he is still due after agreeing to defer his salary to help the club out during the Covid pandemic.
The final detail worth noting is that Barca also want to reduce his release clause from €400 million release to €80 million.
Barcelona did something similar recently with Ronald Araujo’s new contract and may do the same thing with De Jong.
