Time will tell if this proves to be Trent Alexander-Arnold's long goodbye. But amid widespread reports that Real Madrid are working on finalising a deal to sign the Liverpool right-back on a free transfer, it appears his trophy-laden stint at Liverpool is coming to an end.
Alexander-Arnold has won seven major honours with the Reds and could well add another to his collection before the season is out.
Liverpool are 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League with nine matches to play and only a disastrous slip-up would see them fail to get their hands on the English top-flight title for a record-equalling 20th time.

But how many games Alexander-Arnold will play in the run-in remains to be seen. The England international is currently sidelined with the ankle injury he sustained in the Reds' heartbreaking Champions League penalty shoot-out exit to Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield earlier this month.
As the 26-year-old gingerly made his way off the pitch, the thought must have crossed his mind whether he had played his last match for the club he joined as a six-year-old.
However, the damage is not as bad as first feared.
And while Alexander-Arnold is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks yet, he should be back in action by the end of April.
Liverpool's last game next month sees them host Tottenham Hotspur on April 27 (4.30pm kick-off). That could yet be the day the title is sealed.
The Reds then travel to Chelsea, which has been moved to a 4.30pm kick-off on Sunday, May 4, before they welcome Arsenal to Anfield, travel to Brighton & Hove Albion, and then entertain Crystal Palace on the final day of the campaign.
Alexander-Arnold has refused to be drawn on speculation about a move to Real Madrid. But with it now well established that the defending European champions are moving closer to sealing a pre-contract agreement with the player, the silence is beginning to be deafening.
Before a move to the Spanish capital is confirmed, however, Madrid have an obligation to inform Liverpool.
The Reds have had no word yet from Real, a spokesperson for whom said: “We never comment on players that are not ours.”
