A standout cornerback and wide receiver at Colorado, Travis Hunter averaged 119 snaps per game en route to the 2024 Heisman Trophy.
At Big 12 Pro Day, Hunter’s college coach, Deion Sanders, was asked about Hunter being one of the best two-way players that’s ever been seen.
“The best,” Sanders interjected on NFL Network. “Not one of the best. The best. The best that ever did it.”
One of the top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, Sanders is confident that Hunter would be able to play both ways at the next level, even given the rigors of professional football.
“He doesn’t know any other way,” Sanders said. “What else would he do? Just sit there beside the water cooler while the offense is out there getting their butts kicked? And you’ve got the best receiver probably on your team over there sitting down with the coach waiting on his turn to go back onto the field? That does not make sense to me.
“Just because a person hasn’t done this in the majority of the NFL, don’t say what another man can’t do. We hadn’t seen some of the things Patrick Mahomes is doing. We hadn’t seen some of the things these wonderful athletes are doing right now. Travis Hunter can do whatever he desires to do if given the opportunity — and it’s going to take the right team to give him that opportunity.”
Might that team be the New England Patriots?
Sitting No. 4 overall, it’ll depend on what happens ahead of them on draft day. There’s a scenario where two quarterbacks and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter go in the first three picks, allowing Hunter to fall into New England’s lap.
“Travis Hunter loves the game,” Sanders said. “He’s not in like with it, he’s in love with the game. He don’t really care (about) the accolades he possesses, this guy loves to play the game of football.”
