How much WNBA, G League, and BAL cost to NBA?

For the 2024-25 season, the NBA is expected to spend $225 million on the WNBA, G League, and Basketball Africa League (BAL), with a projected $8 million loss.

The NBA operates more than just its flagship league. Under its umbrella, it also oversees three additional leagues: the WNBA, the G League, and the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

A recent article by Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic revealed how much these leagues cost the NBA. For the 2024-25 season, the NBA's budget will grow by $151 million, with the WNBA, G League, and BAL costing an additional $225 million and expecting an $8 million loss.

The WNBA, founded in 1996, is the premier professional women's basketball league in the United States.

The G League, originally launched as the NBA Development League (NBDL) in 2001, was rebranded in 2017 and serves as the NBA's official minor league, offering developmental opportunities for players, coaches, and referees.

The BAL, a joint effort between the NBA and FIBA, was announced in 2019 and began play in 2021.

NBA and FIBA are also exploring the possibility of an NBA Europe project, which could bring a league to the continent soon.
