Newcastle sent ridiculous transfer proposal as Stan Collymore fails to do his research

The Alexander Isak debate rumbles on, with the media seemingly obsessed with discussing if Newcastle United can hold on to the sensational Swede.

Interest is inevitable and the rumours won’t stop, sadly. but today we’ve seen a frankly ridiculous suggestion put Newcastle’s way as Liverpool continue to be linked with a potential move for the striker.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you Stan Collymore and the ex-Reds’ cunning plan to get him to Liverpool this summer…

The idea it would ‘benefit Newcastle’ to swap the best striker in the Premier League for one of the most erratic in the Premier League is an interesting take.

But that’s what Stan Collymore has put forward, believing Newcastle could pursue a part-exchange that sees Alexander Isak join Liverpool and Darwin Nunez arrive on Tyneside this summer.

He believes our ‘financial situation’ – a situation he’s clearly failed to do his research on – mixed in with Nunez’s ability to improve under Eddie Howe makes this one to watch.

Speaking to [Caught Offside](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2025/03/20/collymore-england-liverpool-chelsea/), he said: “I think the Alexander Isak to Liverpool rumours are not going to go away anytime soon, and Newcastle may need to sell because of FFP – especially if they do not qualify for the Champions League. And I think Isak would do very well at Liverpool, and it could be one to watch.

“Nunez has definitely been affected by his Liverpool experience, and I think that he should leave – simply put, he is not up to the standards needed at Liverpool, which can be very unforgiving.

“Isak would be a massive upgrade on Nunez. His all-round play is what Liverpool need in a striker, and in my opinion, I think it could benefit Newcastle to take Nunez.

“There is certainly a player in there, but he is not someone that can handle a player for a club like Liverpool that brings so much scrutiny and pressure. He would be a really good fit at Newcastle, and their supporters would love him.”

Collymore continued, believing a part-exchange could work or both parties considering our financial situation relating to PSR.

However, it seems he’s failed to realise that the club head into the summer in a far healthier position and under no pressure to sell our star players this time after January sales, strong accounts posted earlier this month and a lack of first team signings over the past three windows.

“Newcastle are a really big club, so it would not feel like a massive step down for Nunez, but the important thing is that the pressure would not be as telling.

“And I think Eddie Howe, who I think will become England manager in the future, can make Nunez into the player that many thought he would become at Liverpool.

“Whatever happens, I think Nunez will leave Liverpool in the summer, but it would not surprise me if he went to Newcastle with Isak going in the opposite direction as the two clubs could reach an amicable agreement when considering their respective FFP situations.”

Alexander Isak has 24 goal involvements in 25 Premier League games this season. Darwin Nunez has just five goals in 23 outings, receiving yellow cards (7) more often than he’s seen the ball hit the back of the net.

Swapping a complete and reliable striker in Isak for a loose cannon like Nunez would be asking for trouble.
