Chelsea fans will have bad memories of referee selected for Tottenham clash - opinion

Chelsea will be one of the sides who feel like they have been on the wrong end of some big refereeing decisions this season.

Manager Enzo Maresca has frequently shown his frustration at calls that have gone against his side, with some almost certainly impacting the outcome of certain games.

Maresca actually approached the referee at the end of Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United after a horror tackle on Cole Palmer didn’t result in a red card.

There was also anger from the Blues boss when a sending off was avoided for what looked a hair pull on Marc Cucurella in the draw against Bournemouth, an offence which had seen a red card earlier this season.

Chelsea’s last game with Craig Pawson as referee

Mauricio Pochettino’s side thought they had completed a dramatic comeback victory against Aston Villa late in last season, when Axel Disasi crashed a header in off the bar and thought he had put them 3-2 up.

However, the goal was disallowed for a foul in the build-up by Benoit Badiashile, costing them two points in the process.

The Blues ended up five points behind Villa at the end of the season, however would have been putting far more pressure on them in the race for Champions League football if the result had gone their way.
