Colin Cowherd Gives Aaron Rodgers Major Advice Ahead of 49ers’ Brock Purdy Decision

The wait for Aaron Rodgers' free agency decision continues as the 2025 NFL draft continues to draw closer. At this point in time, the Pittsburgh Steelers are viewed as the front-runner to sign him, but could the San Francisco 49ers become an option?

As the 49ers work through their own contract discussions with current franchise quarterback Brock Purdy, there have been rumblings that the two sides may not work out a new deal.

Could Rodgers be waiting on a team like San Francisco to make a move and come calling?

That is exactly what notable sports analyst Colin Cowherd has now suggested.

During a segment of his "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" show on Tuesday, Cowherd suggested that Rodgers could be an option for the 49ers are another team who may not have entered the picture yet.

He also shared some advice to Rodgers. Cowherd thinks the future Hall of Fame quarterback should continue waiting things out and keeping his options open.

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but Aaron Rodgers needs to go on another darkness retreat," Cowherd said.

Cowherd does not believe that the 49ers are going to pay Purdy the kind of money he desires. He didn't suggest that San Francisco could trade him, but if that did happen Rodgers would become an instant option.

Past the money aspect of things, NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated revealed that Rodgers is looking for the best fit and culture he can find.

"While money is always a factor in the NFL, I don't really get the idea it will be in this particular case, with either the New York Giants or the Steelers," Breer wrote. "At this point, my sense is that whatever Rodgers decides will come down to what he sees as the best football situation. And along those lines, I've heard Rodgers is looking for a culture such as the one in Green Bay."

If an opportunity opened up with the 49ers playing for Kyle Shanahan, Rodgers would be joining one of the best offensive cultures in the business.
