Jadon Sancho remains a severe thorn in the side of Manchester United even when his permanent departure from the club appears to have been sealed.

Chelsea were looking likely to be the winger's next forever home after they managed to negotiate a loan with a £25m obligation to buy on the summer transfer deadline day. However, this week it has emerged that the Blues agreed a get out clause to avoid being lumbered with the Englishman.

MEN Sport understands that the Blues can pay a nominal fee, believed to be approximately £5m, to avoid signing the forward permanently in the summer. When Ineos negotiated that factor into the agreement, they probably thought it would never be utilised.

And yet, another underwhelming season in the Premier League has left a high chance of Chelsea exploiting the 'anti-transfer' clause. This would leave United in a major dilemma as undoubtedly Ruben Amorim would have been banking on a proportion of this money to help boost his squad.

In a new report by Bild, it seems that not only will Sancho's form scupper United's chances of a £25m windfall this summer, but it could also scupper them signing one of the most talented young prospects in European football too. Previously, United have been linked with the signing of Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens.

Having followed a similar path to Sancho, Gittens has been eyeing a move to the Premier League in the summer following Dortmund's disastrous Bundesliga campaign. The 20-year-old has managed 11 goals in 40 appearances for the German club and is thought to be ready to head back home at the end of the season.

But should he seek advice from one of his friends, he is unlikely to choose United. Bild adds that Sancho and Gittens are in regular contact with the latter keeping the former abreast with life at Dortmund.

It is felt that Sancho wishes to return to Signal Iduna Park in the summer but any hope that the Reds could organise a swap deal plus cash with Dortmund seems unrealistic. It is unlikely that Gittens would have been painted a good impression of United by Sancho which could easily hinder any approach the club makes for the left-sided winger.

Instead, Gittens may look at Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool as more favourable destinations. All three of those clubs have been linked with the winger too.

The only positive from a United perspective is that Dortmund, or potentially Bayer Leverkusen, could be willing to take a chance on Sancho should Chelsea not wish to make his stay permanent. However, after the season he has had, £25m seems a stretch.

For now, it seems that Sancho is a problem that United just cannot shrug off.
