Manchester City and Manchester United are exploring new attacking options ahead of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United have been linked with a number of exciting forwards ahead of the summer transfer window but rivals Manchester City could snub them of a major target.
With one of the lowest goal returns in the Premier League this season, United are rumbling through another difficult campaign. Even under new manager Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils are currently 14th in the standings and it’s becoming a real likelihood that they could finish the season outside the top 10.
United are expected to oversee some significant changes to their team this summer and have set their sights on rising Southampton star Tyler Dibling. However, their rivals are ahead of the curve and could be on track to win the race for his signature.
Man City show ‘concrete interest’ in Tyler Dibling
Earlier this month, Fabrizio Romano told GiveMeSport that United have been sending their scouts to keep an eye on Dibling at St Mary’s. Despite Southampton struggling to battle against relegation, the 19-year-old is still widely regarded as an impressive talent.
“It’s a complicated season for Southampton, but he’s still considered one of the best talents around. And so, for example, I heard several times about Man United, and also Liverpool sending their scouts to follow the player,” Romano said.
However, Florian Plettenberg has also followed up with some extra insight into the situation, reporting that it’s in fact City who are showing ‘the most concrete interest’ in Dibling.
“Understand Manchester City and Tottenham are currently the two Premier League clubs showing the most concrete interest in Tyler Dibling,” the reporter wrote on social media.
“From the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig are still pushing for the 19-year-old top talent – and they have a chance. Max Eberl and Christoph Freund hold a very positive opinion of Dibling and are also keeping an eye on him. However, FC Bayern have yet to make contact with the player’s camp.”
Tyler Dibling’s season so far
Southampton will naturally not want to see Dibling leave the club, especially as an academy graduate. However, after another dismal season in the Premier League, relegation is now an almost certain outcome.
During the 2022/23 season, the Saints finished rock bottom of the table. After earning promotion through the Championship play-offs, they are set to drop back down again, with just nine points on the board from two wins and three draws.
Once relegation takes place, it becomes extremely hard to keep hold of key players, and United could use this as an opportunity to pounce. A move away would also be in the best interest of Dibling himself, who could be eyeing an England call up in the future if he continues his impressive trajectory.
New manager Thomas Tuchel has wasted no time rewarding rising young stars like Myles Lewis-Skelly, so players like Dibling will be working hard to bid for their place in the camp. Joining a top Premier League could be exactly what the youngster needs to keep himself on the radar of the England manager as he continues to work out his strongest team.
