Since the 2022 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers have put out a new starting quarterback each season. That corresponds with each of George Pickens' first three seasons in the NFL. With a new starter this year, Pickens will likely have sixth starting quarterback in four years throwing the ball to him.
That possibility has grown after it appears the relationship between Russell Wilson and the Steelers is fractured and might be too much to overcome.
Pickens' father took to X, formerly Twitter, to credit his son for wading the rough waters of the Steelers' quarterback situation.
"Food for Thought: GP has played with 1 Trubisky, 2 Pickett, 3 Rudolph, 4 Wilson, 5 Fields, 6 ????. All in 3 years. I can appreciate your sanity #14," he said.
Pickens has been known as a volatile personality on and off the field over his career. That has contributed to calls that could see Pickens moved, but the plan seems to be Pickens and DK Metcalf together after that trade.
Pickens' talent is immense and the Steelers still lack any answers at the wide receiver besides him. So, they either have to move him if they do not want to pay him, or pay him this offseason as he heads into the last year of his contract.
Pickens was inconsistent at times and dealt with issues on the field. He has been embroiled in controversy over the entire season. Even Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin acknowledged that Pickens needed to ‘grow up,’ but the Steelers remain in a tough spot with Pickens as the only wide receiver of note on the roster.
