'I could see him': Martin Keown makes prediction about Cole Palmer's future at Chelsea

Cole Palmer is tied down to a long-term contract at Chelsea, so Blues fans will hope the superstar spends the best years of his career with them.

As it stands, Cole Palmer, 22, is currently on a Chelsea deal that runs until the summer of 2033. Even though it’s a huge length of time, there’s no doubt that he’s the best player in the Blues squad.

The left-footed attacking midfielder has been a class above since he moved to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City in 2023.

Cole Palmer’s record as a Chelsea player

The good news is that there is no clause in Palmer’s contract with Chelsea that allows him to leave if the club misses out on Champions League qualification. However, he’s certainly an individual that belongs in the biggest competitions every single season.

If he’s prepared to leave Man City in search of first-team football after coming through their academy, perhaps Chelsea supporters may be right to worry about his long-term future with them.

Martin Keown predicts Cole Palmer will soon leave Chelsea

Pundit Martin Keown has predicted that Palmer will end up leaving Chelsea due to the current state of the club.

Keown told TNT Sports: “Palmer is probably wondering, ‘Hold on, what have I really signed for?’ I could see him leaving that football club in the next couple of years.”

Speaking earlier in the season, Paul Merson insisted Chelsea need Champions League football to ensure they hold on to key players such as Palmer.

If the Blues are to achieve their goals in the remainder of the campaign, it feels like they need Palmer back to his best after the international break.

The fact he’s not scored in any of his previous 10 games across all competitions is alarming for someone with his individual talent and influence.

What Enzo Maresca has said about Cole Palmer’s future

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, 45, has largely built his team around Palmer in the No 10 position this season.

He recently made a worrying claim about the Englishman’s future, though.

Speaking back in February, Maresca commented on Palmer by admitting they’ll need to ask the player if he’s happy at the end of the season. The Blues boss said: “First of all we need to see how we finish. Then, in case we don’t finish in the top four, we’ll see if Cole is happy or not happy.”

Let’s hope Chelsea wrap up the 2024/25 campaign strongly by qualifying for the Champions League and winning the Conference League. That would then give Palmer and the rest of his Chelsea teammates a crack in Europe’s elite club competition next season.
