Arsenal ready to offer new contract to key player

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will hope to see his side keep alive their slim Premier League title chances by beating London rivals Fulham when the competition returns at the start of April.

The Gunners had been on course to mount a serious challenge for the title, but a run of just one win from their last four league games allowed leaders Liverpool to temporarily extend their advantage to 15 points.

A 1-0 win over Chelsea in their final outing before the international break moved Arsenal to within 12 points, however, and victory against the Cottagers at the start of April will see the North London outfit close the gap to nine points.

This summer could be a busy one at The Emirates, with Arteta and those in charge of the club’s recruitment likely to want to bolster the Spaniard’s squad.

He will also be keen to ensure he keeps hold of his most important players, though, and with that in mind it appears that Arsenal are set to offer one of their defenders a new deal.

According to Football Insider, the Gunners are set to offer centre-back Gabriel an improved deal in an effort to fend off interest from elsewhere.

Gabriel is in line for a new contract at Arsenal

It is claimed that talks about a new contract are being lined up ahead of this summer’s transfer window, with the Brazilian having attracted interest from clubs in the Saudi Arabian Pro League.

Gabriel joined Arsenal from French side Lille towards the end of the summer 2020 transfer window, and the defender has since played an integral role for the club.

In total he has played more than 200 times across all competitions, forging a strong partnership with Frenchman William Salia at the heart of the Gunners’ backline over the past couple of seasons.

Gabriel’s current deal with Arsenal is set to expire in the summer of 2027, but the report claims that Arsenal are willing to do whatever it takes to agree an extension with the player.
