The Miami football team held its annual Pro Day this week giving former Hurricanes a chance to flash their skills for professional scouts. One player made immediate headlines with his participation.
Cam McCormick looked to impress NFL teams after a nine-year NCAA career. His tenure has been marred by injury, which significantly stunted his production.
McCormick hails from the state of Oregon. He was a member of the 2016 recruiting class. The 6-foot-5 pass catcher initially signed with the instate Ducks as a three-star prospect, where he spent the next seven years.
He sustained season-ending injuries in both 2018 and 2021. He missed the entirety of the ’19 and ’20 campaigns. As a freshman, he made 13 appearances while recording six catches and a touchdown. Over the next four seasons, he played in just three contests.
Cam McCormick tallied career highs in catches and yards in 2022. He then transferred to Miami for a fresh start, linking back up with head coach Mario Cristobal.
With the Hurricanes, he saw action in 26 contests, racking up 14 receptions and four scores. His career came to an official end in ’24. Emotions were high upon coming to that realization.
McCormick utilized his redshirt in 2016. He received multiple medical redshirts to go along with a blanket COVID waiver for 2020. In all, he spent nine years in college. His sights are now set on the next level.
Cam McCormick will attempt to become a 27-year-old NFL rookie.
He suited up one last time for the Hurricanes at the team’s Pro Day. His 40-yard-dash went viral this week on social media.
McCormick turns 27 years old in April, three weeks before the NFL Draft. His football journey has been unique, but his ultimate goal hasn’t changed.
Now, he’ll get a chance to earn a spot as a pro with his former classmates, one of whom is five-year NFL starting quarterback Justin Herbert.
At this moment in time, Cam McCormick is not on many big boards. He does not top the list of tight end prospects. He’ll look to defy the odds as he’s done time and again to make an NFL roster and continue his playing career.
