Sporting set asking price for Francisco Trincao as Ruben Amorim lines up Man United raid

Ruben Amorim could raid his former team to strengthen Manchester United in the summer.

When Ruben Amorim was appointed Manchester United head coach, he honoured a promise not to sign any Sporting players in January.

With the summer window up next, Amorim is free to raid his former side but United have missed out on Geovany Quenda and hopes of Viktor Gyokeres signing are dwindling.

United have also been linked to Morten Hjulmand as a midfield option for Amorim. Another area the Red Devils will want to improve is in attack, and Francisco Trincao is on Ineos’ radar.

How much Man United would have to pay for Francisco Trincao

While players are away on international duty, United got a good look at Trincao in action for Portugal.

Bruno Fernandes impressed for Portugal as they beat Denmark in the Nations League, but it was Trincao who starred for Portugal as he scored twice off the bench.

United will be in the market for wide players and attacking No.10s this summer and Trincao fits the bill having played under Amorim previously.

According to The Mirror, Trincao is valued at £30m by Sporting, which could be a price tag that Ineos are willing to meet in the summer.

United have already spent £89m on transfers before the window has even opened so the budget will be tight, but if Marcus Rashford or Antony are sold it should give Amorim flexibility to bring in a new forward.

Francisco Trincao’s record under Ruben Amorim

Trincao struggled during his previous spell in the Premier League at Wolves, scoring just three times in 30 appearances.

However, he has played some of his best football under Amorim, so the United coach will be confident about getting the best out of the 25-year-old at Old Trafford.

Amorim gave Trincao his Sporting debut, and he went on to play 143 times under him in Portugal.

Trincao scored 32 goals and provided 29 assists while playing for Amorim’s Sporting, and he played a key role in their league title in 2023/24.

Trincao did go through a dry spell at Sporting, but just like Rasmus Hojlund ending his goal drought, Amorim kept faith with him and he turned into a key player.
