Steelers legend scorches team’s roster: ‘I see a lot of needs’

Pittsburgh Steelers' legendary cornerback Mel Blount sees a lot of needs on the current team. Joining Ben Roethlisberger on his podcast, Footbahlin', Blount discussed the state of the franchise, and while he acknowledges there are some good players across the roster, there is not nearly enough to make them a contender.

“I think the Steelers, right now, they could use help at every position,” Blount said. “Our defense is good, but we’re not where we should be. If you take T.J. (Watt) off of that defense, you don’t have a whole lot....It’s like a race, man. Once you get behind, it’s hard to catch up. It will be interesting to see what Omar (Khan) and (Mike) Tomlin and that staff come up with because like I said earlier, if you’re asking me what I see in the Steelers, I see a lot of needs.”

Blount is not that off base here. The Steelers have a lot of needs that currently are needed on the team, but even more os in the future. The biggest immediate needs might be quarterback and defensive line, but even when drafting them this year, both of those remain future needs as well.

As far as needs across the team, there is not one position, outside of maybe center, that can be thrown to the wayside in the talk of a ‘future need’, and the Steelers are set up to have a ton of holes to fill in the 2026 offseason.
