Aleksandar Mitrovic sends message to a Newcastle United fan after historic Carabao Cup win

Newcastle United recently ended a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy by winning the Carabao Cup at Wembley.

It is a day that no fan will ever forget, the day that the Magpies finally lifted a trophy that some people had been waiting an entire lifetime for.

Newcastle United can officially call themselves winners after beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium, thanks to goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.

Eddie Howe joined the likes of Joe Harvey as managers who have lifted silverware for Newcastle, even some of the best managers in the club’s history were unable to do what Howe has.

The achievement left many asking for Newcastle to build Howe a statue, putting him alongside the likes of Sir Bobby Robson and Alan Shearer as historic club figures to be given the same honour.

Several Newcastle stars from the past have congratulated the current crop of players for their achievement, which they weren’t able to achieve during their time at the club. Michael Owen said Newcastle deserved to win the Carabao Cup, while former Toon boss Alan Pardew referred to Howe as ‘immortal‘ following the victory.

Now, Aleksandar Mitrovic, another former Newcastle star, has had his say on the Magpies’ special win.

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s ‘amazing’ Newcastle United message

Mitrovic wasn’t able to reach the same heights at Newcastle as he has elsewhere. The Serbian international was fantastic at Fulham before signing for Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in 2023.

The 30-year-old joined Newcastle under Steve McClaren, showing signs of a bright player before Rafa Benitez became manager. Mitrovic struggled to impress the legendary manager and was subsequently sold in 2018.

Despite the bitter end, Mitrovic still loves Newcastle and truly believes the Magpies deserve to be in the position they are at the moment.

Mitrovic’s love for Newcastle is sure to have grown even more since the cup win, he recently took the time to send a message to a Newcastle fan Pete Davey, with a special message about their recent honour.

“I hear you are a big Newcastle fan,” he said.

“So congratulations on the trophy after a long time. I hope you had an amazing few days and weeks.”

Aleksandar Mitrovic statistics compared to Alexander Isak

Isak is having a sensational season with Newcastle, scoring 23 goals in all competitions so far. Fans will be hoping the Swede can continue adding to his tally before the end of the season to help them return to the Champions League after missing out on Europe at the end of last season.

Mitrovic has been having a sensational season in Saudi Arabia in his own right, too, scoring 21 goals in 25 games across all competitions. The Serbian had been missing for several weeks with a hamstring injury, but finally returned to the Al-Hilal squad earlier in March.

There was some concern for him earlier this month, however, Mitrovic was taken to hospital following a medical emergency but has since made a full recovery.

Fans may not have realised it at the time, but Mitrovic has gone on to become a sensational player for other clubs.
