NBA Expects Large Increase in Salary Cap Next Season

The NBA is forecasting a 10% increase in the salary cap for the 2025-26 season. The cap is projected to rise from $140.6 million this year to $154.6 million, with a corresponding rise in the luxury tax threshold to $187.9 million. Bobby Marks of ESPN [tweeted the news today](https://x.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1904581353347096647) as the league informed its member franchises of the projection.

The increase is expected to be one of several occasioned by the seven-year broadcast rights deals the NBA signed with broadcast partners which takes effect in the coming season.

For those curious, the [Portland Trail Blazers](https://www.blazersedge.com) will have a fixed cap obligation of approximately $171 million heading into the summer, with around $19.5 million in potential cap holds. The holds cover active players Jabari Walker, Dalano Banton, Bryce McGowens, and Justin Minaya. They account for approximately $9 million of the total.

Right now, the Blazers project to be in 2025-26 about where they are in 2024-25: well above the salary cap line, below the luxury tax threshold. It’s worth noting that they’ll have less than $10 million in wiggle room under the tax to make trades with.
