Ruben Amorim wants to sign players who can work well in his system and according to a report from The Mirror, Sporting’s Francisco Trincao could be one such player.
Trincao, after failing to impress with Barcelona and Wolves, found success under the coaching of Ruben Amorim at Sporting and it looks like the Manchester United manager wants to reunite with the right-winger.
Trincao’s current contract expires in 2026 and it has a €80 million release clause. However, the reports suggest that Sporting will accept a transfer fee of around €35 million which is pretty close to his current market value of €27 million. The 2024/25 campaign is by far been his best season in his senior career because in 43 appearances, the winger has already made 21 goal contributions with an xG of 7.58.
At €35 million, he will definitely be a very lucrative target for Manchester United but the Red Devils aren’t alone in this transfer race because Arsenal and Newcastle United have also been linked with Francisco Trincao.
Are Man United seriously considering a move for Trincao?
It’s not a surprise that United’s rumoured interest in Trincao has come up just days after he scored a brace for Portugal in the quarter-final of the Nations League.
Ruben Amorim has made it clear that he wants players who can match the physicality and high demands of the Premier League but he’s got exactly that in the form of Amad Diallo.
Amad has been superb as the right-winger/right wing-back and we don’t see why Amorim will want to add unnecessary competition by signing Trincao. The club has also brought in Joshua Zirkzee and while he is not exactly blessed with pace but the 23-year-old has turned himself into an influential figure in recent weeks.
At a time when the new INEOS management is busy cutting expenses they are unlikely to sign a player without any concrete reason. Amad, Zirkzee and even Bruno can play on the right-hand side of the 3-4-3 system so just do not see why Manchester United will go out and spend €35 million on Trincao.
Their current priority in the attacking areas will be to sign a left-winger and a new centre-forward and Amorim will want most of the allocated budget to be used on restocking these departments.
