Dietmar Hamann says Trent Alexander-Arnold should 'forget' about winning Ballon d'Or at Real Madrid

Dietmar Hamann says Trent Alexander-Arnold should 'forget' about winning Ballon d'Or at Real Madrid

With Trent Alexander-Arnold's potential move to Spain seemingly imminent, a Liverpool legend wants to remind the 26-year-old of a harsh fact.

Dietmar Hamann, who played for the Reds from 1999 to 2006 and helped the club win the 2005 Champions League, believes Alexander-Arnold could be considering a move to Real Madrid in part to help him win a Ballon d'Or.

While Hamann is not completely rejecting such a notion, the retired midfielder says it would be "near impossible" for Alexander-Arnold to achieve the personal honour even as a member of the famed La Liga giants.

“I do not know how Trent Alexander-Arnold could win the Ballon d’Or as a right-back," Hamann told CardPlayer.com.

“Fabio Cannavaro won it as a defender but it’s near enough impossible. Joining Real Madrid won’t harm his chances, he’ll be competing to win the Champions League every year, the spotlight will be on him more.

“But if winning the Ballon d’Or is the reason that he wants to join Real Madrid, he should forget it and stay at Liverpool.”
