NFL Mock Draft Predicts Three Running Backs Taken in Top 20

With about a month until the 2025 NFL draft, fans and draft experts are getting excited and can hardly wait much longer. All they have to go on as of now are mock drafts consisting of predictions and hypothetical scenarios.

One interesting aspect of this year's draft class that is constantly analyzed is how great the running back position is.

With the Eagles winning the Super Bowl largely due to the performance of Saquon Barkley, a former second-overall pick of the New York Giants in 2018, the position once thought to not matter feels like it matters much more now.

That makes the recent mock draft from Bucky Brooks of NFL.com make a lot of sense, in which he has three running backs going in the top 20 and two in the top 10.

He has the Las Vegas Raiders taking Heisman runner-up Ashton Jeanty with the sixth overall pick, a pick that is commonly mocked in mock drafts nowadays.

More interestingly, he has Omarion Hampton of North Carolina going with the tenth pick in the draft to the Chicago Bears to form an interesting duo of Hampton and D'Andre Swift under Ben Johnson's offense.

Brooks also has the Denver Broncos taking a running back at pick 20, selecting TreVeyon Henderson out of Ohio State.

As mentioned before, this year's running back class is elite, one of the best the NFL has seen in a while. However, that doesn't mean it isn't eye-opening to multiple running backs going early in the draft.

Each of the three teams selecting an RB does need one so in that sense it is understandable, but it is still hard to imagine those teams not prioritizing other positions, besides maybe with Jeanty who has the potential to be the top running back in the NFL early on.

The tenth pick with Hampton is where the mock draft starts to really get interesting.

The Dallas Cowboys follow that pick up by taking top offensive lineman Armand Membou at 12, guard Tyler Booker goes 14 to the Colts, quarterback Jaxon Dart goes 21 to the Steelers, and wide receiver Tet McMillan finally goes off the board at pick 26, which besides two-way player Travis Hunter, is the first receiver taken in the mock draft.

It will be interesting to see how correct this mock draft is come April, as no matter the strengths of each position, seeing three running backs go well before the first wide receiver would be shocking given the typical importance put on each position.
