Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof has admitted that it has been extremely difficult for him to battle with injuries as his Old Trafford career heads towards its conclusion.

The Swedish defender is set to leave United at the end of the season, according to MEN Sport, with his contract expiring this summer. Lindelof was brought to Old Trafford by Jose Mourinho in 2017 after a successful spell at Benfica.

Since arriving at United, he has made 273 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and bagging seven assists in the process. As time has worn on, the centre-back has lost his place in the squad due to a combination of both injuries and form.

From December 2023, Lindelof has had four spells out with injury and missed 37 games for United and Sweden combined. His most recent spell on the sidelines ended in January this year.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, Lindelof admitted that this ending to his United career has been tough. "It has been extremely difficult," he explained.

"I’m used to playing a lot of matches and not being able to do it continuously has been tough. It takes a toll on the psyche to do all the rehab, which is not very fun."

At 30, Lindelof could still have his best days on the pitch ahead of him and speculation has begun regarding where he could end up. Some have suggested a return to Benfica could be on the cards and while he would not be drawn on that, he did express his gratitude to the Portuguese giants.

"Benfica is a club that means a lot to me," Lindelof concluded. "They shaped me into the player I am today.

"I don’t know what will happen and what my decision will be. But it is a club that I like."
