Kevin Durant Unhappy After Top Recruit Aaliyah Chavez Spurns Texas For Oklahoma

Kevin Durant only spent one year at Texas before embarking on a historic NBA career following the 2006-2007 college hoops season. But, he still bleeds burnt orange, and is always supporting the athletic programs in Austin.

The nation’s top women’s basketball recruit, prolific scorer Aaliyah Chavez, had significant interest in Texas, among other finalists like Oklahoma, Texas Tech, LSU, South Carolina, and UCLA. On Tuesday, she chose Oklahoma, and Kevin Durant was not happy about it.

Chavez is a prolific scorer out of Lubbock, Texas that scored a astounding 4,796 points in high school against top competition in Texas. There’s a bit of Caitlin Clark to her game, though maybe just a bit worse of a shooter but a bit better going to the rim. Take a look.

Obviously, that’s a player that any college in America would love to have. On Tuesday, she announced that the Oklahoma Sooners, a solid program but far from a powerhouse, would be her home for the next few years.

That’s a big get for the Oklahoma Sooners, who recently clinched their first Sweet 16 berth since 2013 as they look to return to national prominence after being one of the nation’s best programs in the 2000s.

Kevin Durant was less-than-pleased about this development.

Durant’s whining will just be a footnote in the career of Aaliyah Chavez, who is expected to sign a deal with Jordan Brand.

Expect Aaliyah Chavez to sign an NIL deal with the Jordan Brand in the future. https://t.co/KC9N3wv5ec

KD is having a phenomenal year with the Phoenix Suns, despite the team’s disappointing season.
