Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes his former club have already reached an agreement to sign a new striker ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

It’s no secret the Gunners are in for a new striker this summer after failing to sign one over the last two transfer windows. Mikel Arteta’s top targets are Alexander Isak of Newcastle and RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

It’s extremely likely one of the two will be moving to North London this summer. Arsenal currently sit in second place in the Premier League, 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool and many people at the club are sure a world class centre-forward will get the current Arsenal team over the line to win major honours.

The Gunners have suffered from an injury crisis in attack this season which has derailed parts of their campaign. Recently Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have all been unavailable. Mikel Arteta is determined to make sure the same mistakes don’t happen next season.

Martin Keown: “I just feel with Isak, now they [Newcastle] won that [trophy], it’s going to be even more difficult to get him away from there. The whole world is on it. It’s about finding these players before everybody else does.

“There’s a new director of football now. You’ve got to go after the players, a good free transfer. You can’t just keep spending money on the obvious Declan Rice, but you can be certain this summer they will be buying a striker, without doubt.”

“I would suggest that there is already a player bought and it’s already done from an Arsenal point of view. They won’t make that mistake again.”

Martin Keown is most likely correct. It’s been reliably reported in the past that Arsenal do the majority of their groundwork months before a signing is officially announced.

Initial contact by Mikel Arteta with Declan Rice happened over a year before he became an Arsenal player. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the same situation is happening right now with a new centre-forward ahead of next season.
