New England Patriots address receiver need, sign 4-time Pro Bowler

One of the New England Patriots' biggest needs this offseason was to address the wide receiver position.

And on Tuesday, they did just that.

Stefon Diggs agreed to a three-year, $69 million deal with the Patriots, a source confirmed to MassLive.

Diggs visited the New England Patriots last week. Sources confirmed to MassLive that the visit went well, but no deal was imminent when he left.

It’s unclear if Diggs will be ready for Week 1 after the wideout tore his ACL in Week 8 last season. He will fill a void the Patriots desperately need and add a veteran presence to their locker room.

Diggs will also give quarterback Drake Maye a legitimate weapon in an important Year 2.

The Patriots wide receiver depth left much to be desired in 2024. Their lone free-agent addition last offseason was K.J. Osborn, who played just four games before he was benched. His productivity wasn’t what the Patriots hoped. Osborn had seven catches on 18 targets for 57 yards and was released in December.

Before his ACL injury, Diggs was in the midst of a productive season for the Houston Texans with 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report the news of Diggs' deal.
