USC hired new linebacker coach Rob Ryan back in January, which created a lot of buzz due to his NFL pedigree.
Ryan worked with his new unit for the first time Tuesday during USC's first spring football practice of 2025, and the USCFootball.com team was there to cover all of the action. Watch video of Ryan working with Eric Gentry, Desman Stephens, Jadyn Walker, Anthony Beavers and Garrison Madden above.
Before coming to USC, Ryan had coached exclusively in the NFL since 2000. He mainly served as a defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in his time in the pros. Ryan was the defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders (2004-2008), Cleveland Browns (2009-2010), New Orleans Saints (2013-2015) and Dallas Cowboys (2011-2012). He was a linebackers coach with the New England Patriots from 2000-2003 and an inside linebackers coach with the Washington Redskins in 2019 and Ravens in 2021.
Before 2000, Ryan had stints in college as linebackers and defensive backs coach at Tennessee State. He was the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 1997-1999.
