Wataru Endo has opened up about a special moment he recently shared with Liverpool manager Arne Slot, revealing a conversation that shows just how much the midfielder’s efforts have been valued this season.
Endo joined Liverpool in the summer of 2023 with relatively low expectations from outside the club. But inside the dressing room, it’s clear the Japanese international has earned huge respect.
He hasn’t always been a regular starter, but his influence on the squad has grown quietly and steadily.
With a strong attitude and a clear sense of purpose, Endo has impressed the manager, teammates, and fans alike.
In a recent podcast appearance (via Red Machine podcast), the 31-year-old shared what Slot said to him not long ago: “[Slot] recently told me that what I’ve done this season has been really amazing and very helpful to the team.”
That kind of praise reflects more than just performances on the pitch — it shows the importance of attitude and consistency, even when not in the spotlight.

Wataru Endo reveals what Arne Slot is ‘grateful’ about
Endo has featured in 26 matches across all competitions this season, starting six times so far. He has shown composure in midfield, with over 600 completed passes and more than 700 minutes of football under his belt. While others may grab headlines, Endo continues to play his part whenever called upon.
He added: “Because even if I don’t have the opportunity to play much, when I go out onto the field I always try to give 100% to help the team. My coach is really grateful for that.”
It’s that quiet determination that has made Endo popular among the Liverpool faithful. His connection with fans has grown stronger, helped by his openness on social media and the now-famous chant to the tune of ABBA’s “Voulez-Vous.”
With Liverpool pushing for a strong end to the season, Endo’s readiness to step up remains vital. Whether starting or coming off the bench, his mindset never changes — he’s here to help the team.
