Chinese Ambassador to Tonga Liu Weimin Attends Tonga National Development Summit

On 21stMarch, Ambassador Liu Weimin attended and delivered remarks at the thematic session on "Collaboration& Partnership" of Tonga National Development Summit. Around 200 participants attended, including HRH Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala, Prime Minister Hon. Dr ‘Aisake Eke, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, foreign envoys, and representatives from various sectors of Tongan society. Tonga's mainstream media covered the summit with live broadcasts.

Ambassador Liu congratulated the successful convening of the Summit, elaborated on the spirit of China's "Two Sessions" in 2025 and introduced China's "four full respects" in developing relations with Pacific Island countries. He spoke positively of China-Tonga relations and highlighted that Chinese modernization will bring more opportunities to developing countries, including Tonga. He emphasized that China and Tonga should further synergize the development strategies and expand practical cooperation across various fields.

The four-day Tonga National Development Summit, themed "A Resilient Tonga through Transformative action: Safeguarding Our Heritage," focused on formulating the Tonga Strategic Development Framework III (2026-2036) to advance sustainable development goals.
