A scoreless draw in La Paz rarely tells the full story, and Bolivia’s 0-0 stalemate with Uruguay was no exception. The hosts were dominant in every statistical category—except the one that mattered most.
With 66% possession and 357 accurate passes at an 86% success rate, Bolivia controlled the tempo from the first whistle to the last. They launched wave after wave of attack, racking up 32 total shots and 16 corners. Seven of those efforts tested the goalkeeper, and one was classified as a big chance, but it wasn’t enough to pierce Uruguay’s deep block.
Uruguay, meanwhile, looked unrecognizable from the free-flowing side often seen under Marcelo Bielsa. Despite boasting more firepower on paper and a much higher FIFA ranking (#11 vs. Bolivia’s #79), La Celeste produced just 11 shots—and not a single one on target. They completed only 148 passes at a modest 69% accuracy and failed to create a single big chance.
The match also stayed relatively clean despite the tactical aggression, with just 15 fouls committed between both sides. Uruguay, however, were second best throughout, unable to hold possession or threaten on the counter.
Fede Valverde came on a substitute in the second half but was not really involved in the game as he usually is. The Real Madrid star completed nine out of his 12 passes, however, created one chance during his time on the pitch. He will now return to Madrid for a crucial stretch of the season.
