Manchester United are on the market for new attacking options this summer.
Manchester United have a lot of work ahead of them both on and off the pitch in these coming months. With their Premier League season not going entirely to plan, there is a big concern that they could finish outside the top ten.
As things stand, United are 14th in the table, seven points behind Bournemouth in 10th. A string of disappointing results has led to a poor points tally for the Red Devils, and a big hill to climb between now and the end of the season to close the gap.
One of United’s biggest concerns throughout this season has been their lack of threat in front of goal. With just 37 goals on the board, they have one of the lowest returns in the league. The likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund have come under fire for their lack of league goal contributions, particularly the latter, who was brought in for a hefty £72 million to change United’s attacking landscape less than two years ago.
Man United eyeing former Ruben Amorim player
Strengthening their frontline has become a main talking point when it comes to United’s summer transfer plans. Jim Ratcliffe has already publicly backed Ruben Amorim moving forward, so a significant transfer window could be ready to unfold at Old Trafford.
Since his arrival from Sporting CP, plenty of rumours have suggested Amorim could dip into the pool of his former club for new signings. United have been linked with several players from the Primeira Liga side since, and according to local outlet Record, his newest plan is try and entice Francisco Trincão over to Manchester.
Trincão is reportedly under contract until 2027, with a £50 million release clause in place. The winger joined Sporting in 2023 following a successful loan spell from Barcelona, who can either re-sign him for £17-21 million, or enjoy the benefits of his 50 percent sell-on clause. Considering their current financial concerns, pocketing a significant profit could be the more attractive option, leaving the floor open for clubs like United to potentially make a move.
United ‘willing’ to make an offer for Trincão
The report claims that United are ‘unlikely’ to meet the £50 million release clause price, but they ‘could be willing’ to table a bid in the region of £35-40 million in attempt to sign Trincão.
The Portuguese winger is a player who Amorim knows well, having seen him arrive at Sporting. During his time with the club so far, Trincão has been an impressive creative outlet, with 32 goals and 29 assists in total so far. This season, the 25-year-old has notched nine goals and 15 assists for his side, while showing off his versatility.
Trincão is a right-winger by trade but has slipped into more left and central roles when called upon this season. His impressive tally could be the start of United fixing up their concerns in attack, as they eye a much stronger season after the summer.
