An early look at the injury news ahead of West Ham’s clash with Wolves at Molineux.
West Ham are within a week of returning to Premier League action as the international break heads into its final days. The Hammers have struggled to manage consistency under Graham Potter, but they will be hoping for a strong end to the season as they build toward next term.
Both sides will get some extra rest ahead of this one due to the FA Cup taking centre stage this weekend, but both sides still have injury issues. Here we round up all the latest on the injury front.
Leon Chiwome - Out
Chiwome is going to be out for much of the calendar year. Vitor Pereira has said: “Devastated to say that I've ruptured my ACL, and it will bring my season to an end just after coming back from injury.”
Yerson Mosquera - Out
Mosquera also has a serious knee injury and will be out until the summer. Former boss Gary O’Neill said at the time: “It’s really early days, and I don’t want to put a definitive time scale on it, but everything went very well with the surgery. Over the next days and weeks, we’ll start to really map out what the rehab looks like.”
Enso Medina - Out
It’s a similar situation with Medina, albeit a couple of months difference, with O’Neill saying at the time: “He's beginning his strength phase. He's a few months ahead of Yerson. He responded really well to the initial surgery and is back in the gym working hard, so he's right on track with where we'd expect him to be.” Medina will be out until the summer.
Matheus Cunha - Out
Cunha is suspended for this one after after he lost his temper in an FA Cup game and lashed out. Pereira said of the suspension: “This is a bad moment because the damage is of course to himself firstly, then to the team. But he gave us a lot until now and that means that this is the moment to support him. He had a bad moment. Of course, it was a mistake, and he needs to learn from his mistake.”
Sasa Kalajdzic - Out
Kalajdzic has been out with a long-term knee issue and his return date is unclear.
Michail Antonio - Out
Antonio is going to be out until at least the summer if not into next season following the nasty car crash he was involved in. The forward having said: “Yes, 100 per cent, I will play again. Overall, they say it will be between six to 12 months before my leg starts healing properly.”
Vladimir Coufal - Doubt
It was hoped Coufal could return for the last game, but he didn’t leaving doubt over his return date. Potter said before the Everton game: “Lucas (Paqueta) has trained this week, as has Coufal. Obviously, we’ve got a few more days to go until the game, but if they react well, we’ve got a chance they’ll be involved in the game.” Given it will have been around two extra weeks since then, Coufal should return, but we will wait for confirmation.
Niclas Fullkrug - Doubt
It will be hoped that Fullkrug can return for this one. Potter said before the break: “Niclas has been training with the group but isn't ready to start certainly. We'll assess him over the next day or two, but we're probably looking more after the international break.”
Crysencio Summerville - Doubt
Summerville is in a very similar situation to Fullkrug. Potter said before the break: “From my perspective, it was always clear - it will be after the international break. Like with anything, I think it's fair for the individual to treat the diagnosis and treatment privately. That's always the case.”
