Tottenham Hotspur fans will be thankful for the international break as it gave them respite from a poor run of three games without a win in the Premier League.
Spurs are rotting in 14th place on the league table. Serious questions need to be asked of the squad-building team. Manager Ange Postecoglou is also under scrutiny.
The international break allows Tottenham to recharge for this crucial run-in. Perhaps going away to their respective national teams will refresh the team as they bid to climb into the top half of the league table and potentially reach the finals of the Europa League.
However, one Tottenham star didn’t exactly enjoy the best of outings during the international break. Spurs defender Cristian Romero endured a horrendous night as his [Argentina team humiliated Brazil 4-1.](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/mar/26/argentina-vs-brazil-fifa-football-world-cup-qualifiers-scores-results)
Despite the victory, Romero gave a worrying display. Tottenham transfer target Matheus Cunha pounced on Romero’s complacency to win the ball from the 26-year-old and score for Brazil.
Romero won only four of his nine duels and lost possession ten times. It was not a great day at the office, but he will be happy that his team eventually sealed the win.
Romero just returned from a long injury lay-off. Hopefully, he can shake off the rust before Tottenham travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on April 3.
Spurs have not enjoyed success in recent meetings with the Blues. They need players like Romero to play up to his usual standards.
Interestingly, news broke yesterday that [Atletico Madrid is interested in Romero](https://whiteheartlane.com/atletico-madrid-want-tottenham-defender-cristian-romero-this-summer/). Their manager, Diego Simeone, is a fan of the Tottenham centre-back.
Spurs should cash in on the injury and mistake-prone defender this summer in our view. Availability is the best ability, and Romero, who started just 14/29 Premier League games this season, cannot be relied upon.
